The following section answers some commonly asked questions from new members and will help you feel more comfortable when visiting our facility. Don't forget, just ask the first staff member you see if your question is not included here.
1. How do I get started on my first workout? The two half-hour personal training sessions included in most memberships will set you up on a strength and/or cardio workout. Your trainer will set up your machines and will make note of adjustments, weight lifted, sets, repetitions and frequency per week on your personal workout record. You will file this information at the gym and have access to it each time you workout. After your initial sessions you may continue on your own or hire a trainer for further sessions. All personal trainers on staff are nationally certified and select trainers have physical therapy backgrounds.
2. Should I do my cardio or strength workout first if I combine them in the same day? In general, it is better to do the type of training you want to most focus on that day, first. You will have the most energy for it and will get the most out of whatever you do first. You can try it both ways and see which suits you better.
3. How do I work in on the gym floor? If you wish to share strength training equipment with another member, simply ask, "May I work in?". When you take your turn, finish your set or exercise in a timely manner and then allow others to share. Avoid resting on the equipment between sets. This doesn't allow members to share and can slow down the pace of others working out.
4. When do I know it's my turn to use a piece of cardio equipment? We recommend that you match your use to the time of day and the piece you want to use. Our busiest times are usually mid-morning (9:00 - 10:30 a.m.) and early evening. (5:30 - 7:00 p.m.) If you're a person who likes a fast 30 minutes of cardio and then goes home, you'll be fine. If you like longer workouts, we suggest you arive shortly before or after the busy times. We don't set time limits or have sign-up sheets for cardio equipment since we usually have enough available. However, if you are waiting for a specific piece of equipment, simply let the person currently on the machine know that you wish to go next. Often times they will prompt you when they are finished.
5. What is that piece of equipment? It takes a while to learn all the pieces of equipment and what each one does. If you have a question about any piece we have, ask any staff member to show you how it works. We also have a touch screen kiosk that shows a 60 second video of each strength machine. This new technology makes it easy to learn new machines.
6. When will I see results? Generally, you will start to feel and look better within the first 8 weeks. Your clothes will start to fit better and you'll have more energy. Don't focus too much on the scale; you will be replacing fat loss with some muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat. While the number on the scale isn't changing, your body composition is. The weight will come off and stay off because you're doing it the right way for the long term. Safe weight loss is one to two pounds per week. Just think in 6 months …(24 weeks x 2lbs = 48lbs!!!). Remember, your eating habits are very important to your overall success, so ask one of our staff about our nutrition program right away!
7. How do I hire a Personal Trainer? All of our trainers are nationally certified and have their business cards posted in the weight room. Simply ask the front desk to have a trainer contact you or contact the trainer of choice directly if you wish. The fees for personal training are paid directly to the trainer and the prices are set by the individual trainer. Generally, it costs $35.00 per half hour session and $60.00 per hour session. Discounts are available if multiple or package sessions are purchased.
8. How do I get a private locker? Open storage shelves are available throughout the gym to store your bags, towels and clothes while working out and are included in your membership. Private rental lockers are also available and may be rented at the front desk.
9. How do I make suggestions? We love suggestions, complaints, comments and even have a system set up so you will know your voice is heard. We know that members who care are the ones that give us valuable feedback that can help us make our gym even better. If you have a suggestion or complaint, stop by the front desk and ask for a suggestion card. If you would like to remain anonymous we also have a suggestion box located just north of the front desk. We will address the input as soon as possible. If something is serious or needs immediate attention, please see either Christi (owner), Steve (owner) or Brian (manager) personally.
10. How do I bring a guest? As a member of Christi's, you are entitled to bring as many guests as you would like their first time to the facility at no charge. After their first visit, we ask that they pay a single visit fee. |
